Summary:
Drain Technicians install and maintain drainage equipment used in residential sewer and drain services. The
Drain Technician will analyze the design and ensure the proper installation of the drainage system, perform
maintenance and repair duties, run drain cleaning equipment in residential and commercial drain lines, and
cut/assemble pipes with knowledge to existing infrastructure.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
• Used various equipment and tools to unclog drains, camera pipes, install urinals and toilets.
• Inspect manholes to locate sewer line stoppages.
• Perform trench work, laying pipe, building underground manholes.
• Assemble many pieces for custom bags and cushions utilizing good body mechanics.
• Install PVC pipe, copper lines and flexible hose for residential water systems.
• Remove and replace broken tile section or pipe, using caulking compound and cement to form
watertight joint.
• Utilize diagnostic skills to access and troubleshoot the situation and provide the client with value-add
options for their situation.
• Experience working with various types of piping including both hard and soft copper, galvanize and
black pipe, and PVC.
• Diagnose plumbing relate issues in residential and commercial locations.
• Assist customers with plumbing and drainage issues.
• Maintain clogged sewage lines.
• Troubleshoot plumbing layouts.

Requirements:

• Must maintain valid apprenticeship card and have it on your person during all work hours.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be capable of following instructions, have good communication skills, and the ability to retain
information.
• Must be capable of identifying materials used in the trade.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• Enforces safety and work performance standards and regulations.
• Adheres to company core values.
Required Education and Experience:
• Must be in a Plumbing Apprenticeship program or willing to enroll.

Work Environment:
Work environment may vary depending on the type of job; work may be indoors or outdoors. May require
prolonged standing in cramped or uncomfortable positions often working with hands over head. Drain
Technicians may work in a wide variety of environments from clean to dusty, dirty, hot, cold, and wet
conditions, or in confined areas, ditches, or other uncomfortable spaces. The work environment varies with each
job. Drain Technicians must follow strict safety procedures to prevent injuries, falls and cuts. Additionally,
depending on the nature of the work required by a supervisor, one in this role may work in an office
environment where filing paperwork processing and computer work be required.

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
• Regularly required to work around operating equipment, work in confined spaces, stand for long periods
of time, walk, reach, stoop, crawl, twist, bend and climb ladders.

This position is safety sensitive and drug free, must adhere by the company’s Employee Handbook and Safety
Manual. Due to the nature of the trade, Magic Electric, Plumbing, Heating and Air participates in a reasonable
suspicion drug/substance screening process designed to meet our commitment of being a drug free organization.
The company reserves the right to require its employees to present themselves for testing immediately
following a work-related incident.
This position may be required to drive a company vehicle or drive a personal vehicle on company business
and therefore must adhere to the company’s Employee Handbook and Safety Manual including the
requirements indicated on the Fleet Policy. State Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be used as the source
for verifying driver history at time of employment and at least annually thereafter. Driving privileges may be
withdrawn or suspended for any authorized driver not meeting the listed requirements. In addition,
appropriate disciplinary action may be taken. The standard for reviewing MVRs is as follows: new drivers
may not be hired with a borderline or poor rating and driving records must remain acceptable or clear to
remain on the qualified drivers list.

Some travel may be required outside of the Treasure Valley.
